Buckshaw Legacy Project
The Chorley Remembers Project, Barratt Manchester and the Buckshaw Village Community Association are working together in order to keep the history of ROF Chorley alive. The former Royal Ordnance Factory site, now Buckshaw Village was opened in the 1930s to support the three existing Royal factories by moving the production of munitions and armaments away from vulnerable London and south-east coast.
Eager not to discard the site’s rich heritage, the Buckshaw Legacy project aims to complete the planned projects by 2013 for future generations to enjoy. The project which is currently in the initial stages of planning, would encompass a Heritage Trail with information boards/maps throughout Buckshaw, a permanent ‘Memories’ photography exhibition and an art project in collaboration with Runshaw College.
The first port of call for this exciting project was a memories event on 25th March 2012. A short video clip of the event can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiPxiZm8rd8&sns=em&noredirect=1
Kaye Davies, BVCA Chair stated, “If there is anybody locally who would like to be involved, who feels they can positively contribute to this exciting project and leave a lasting legacy for the area, please get in touch or come along on 25th March.”
Chorley Remembers and Barratt Manchester are keen to hear from any local resident with any stories, pictures or artefacts detailing their experiences of life alongside this fascinating piece of World War II history.
More information on the project's development coming soon!
