Buckshaw Parkway Train Station
Buckshaw Parkway has arrived; the station opened on 3rd October 2011 and was 'officially' opened by Norman Baker MP (under Secretary for Transport) on 5th December 2011.
The station is located on the Manchester-Preston Line near to Euxton Junction which links Manchester with the West Coast Main Line. As such the station receives three train services an hour in each direction, two Northern services (Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria and Preston to Hazel Grove) and one TransPennine Express service (Blackpool North to Manchester Airport). For a full timetable please click here.
The station is operated by Network Rail and has been designed as one of their flagship stations. Buckshaw Parkway can accommodate 450,000 passengers per year with capacity to be expanded if the demand is greater. It has a secure, lit car park that provides 204 free park & ride spaces. There is also provision for secure motorcycle parking for 10 vehicles and 50 bicycles. The station is manned Monday to Saturday with a more limited opening time on Sundays.
Are there any plans to open up the South entrance to the Station?
A gate in the corner of the car park has been installed to facilitate access from the South side (nearest Runshaw College) which will prevent passengers from walking all the way round. The gate is temporarily closed for health and safety reasons as the area outside the gate has yet to be developed by the land owners. However, the intention is to open up the gate once the area has been landscaped with path ways and any necessary lighting installed by the developers who own this land and a planning application is anticipated during 2012.
