With a week left to go before Iron Man UK passes through the village BVCA are still in need of more volunteers. The event will take place on Sunday 20th July 2014 with the amended route seeing competitors entering the village down Dawson’s lane, past the iconic Green Man Statue, down past The Bobbin Mill and on in to Leyland.
At July’s committee meeting members of Buckshaw Village Community Association (BVCA) were briefed about the potential changes that could be made to health care provision within the village. A member of the team from Buckshaw Village Surgery explained recent developments to concerned committee members. After 5 years of excellent service by Dr Muttu and his team, the surgery will have their contract terminated by NHS England from July 2015 and rather than choose to simply renew the contract, NHS England have chosen to put the contract out to tender without as much as consulting patients about the level of care they receive or seeking their feedback on the practice. The tender process could see Dr Muttu successfully re-apply or another health care provider move in.
The practice was set up by Dr Muttucumaru (a GP of 25 years’ experience) and employs a further 7 GPs, two Specialist Nurse Practitioners, 4 Practice Nurses, and a 12 strong Administration and Management team.
Due to the significant level of housing development taking place around Buckshaw Village, and the potential impact this could have on the provision of school places, Lancashire County Council are planning to deliver leaflets to all properties on Buckshaw Village on 16th July 2014.
