Come to an illustrated talk on…Sunday 25th March 2.30 p.m at Buckshaw Village Community Centre to share your memories or learn about the role this important site played in the National campaign for nearly 70 years. The event is free entry - all welcome, for more information please visit: www.chorleyremembers.org.uk or call Chorley Remembers on 01257 273261.
This event forms part of the Buckshaw Legacy project and Chorley Remembers Project. Barratt Manchester, the Buckshaw Village Community Association and the Chorley Remembers project are working together in order to keep the history of ROF Chorley alive.
The former Royal Ordnance Factory site, now a groundbreaking, 400 acre residential development, was opened in the 1930s to support the three existing Royal factories by moving the production of munitions and armaments away from the vulnerable London and south-east coast.
Eager not to discard the site’s rich heritage, the Buckshaw Legacy project aims to complete the planned projects by 2013 for future generations to enjoy. The project which is currently in the initial stages of planning, would encompass a Heritage Trail throughout Buckshaw, a permanent ‘Memories’ photography exhibition and an art project in collaboration with Runshaw College.
Kaye Davies, BVCA Chair stated, “If there is anybody locally who would like to be involved, who feels they can positively contribute to this exciting project and leave a lasting legacy for the area, please get in touch or come along on 25th March.”
Chorley Remembers and Barratt Manchester are now keen to hear from any local resident with any stories, pictures or artefacts detailing their experiences of life alongside this fascinating piece of World War II history, which will be proudly displayed in the Buckshaw Village Community Centre.
